RACIAL HATRED.
HUNGARIAN LAD LEFT TO DIE. BUDAPEST, August 29. The inhumanity of a Yugoslavian frontier guard, who shot a Hungarian peasant lad, Joseph Jakopanez, and then left him to die a dreadful, lingering death on a river*bank, reveals the alarming intensity of European nationalism. ' The frontier guard fired at and wounded the peasant lad, who was caught in a current while swimming and drifted to the Yugoslavian bank. The lad managed to scramble on to Yugoslavian soil, and the guard roughly bound his wounds and left him in agony. His screams wore heard on the Hungarian side of the river. His parents aud a doctor tried to cross, whereupon the frostier guard threatened to fire. The moans of the boy, which were heard for the two following days, were only stopped by his death. Even then the Yugoslavians left the dead body on the river-bank for hours. Hungarian authorities are checking the possibility of reprisals by tha enraged villagers.
