UNEMPLOYMENT.
WOMEN'S COMMITTEE. REPORTS PRESENTED. The Christdiurch Women's "Unemployment Committee held a meeting yesterday, the Mayoress (Mrs D. G. Sullivan) presiding. The Commissioner for •Unemployment wrote regarding unemployed women and girls residing in New Brighton, advising that the allocations had been arranged. The Christchurch Tramway Board wrote with reference to the issue of frte tram rides to unemployed women and girls, stating that any deserving cases would receive consideration. The various sub-committees presented reports. It was stated that there IGS) on the live list. , The omplovment report stated that new registrations numbered 13, 19 had been placed in positions, 178 were on tlie live and 117 had c:illed during the fortnight. In the centres 60 women had been employed. The cookery 'sub-committee reported that the new centre would be ready in the course of and that the trainees would be addressed by Miss Trent prior to instructions being given. Messrs Stephenson and Sons had presented a rhcep for a guessing competition. The cookery centre reported that during the fortnight 642 moals had I een served at the centre. The committee acknowledged gifts to the depot from the Beresford. Aunty Brown, Mrs Blackabv, Boath and Co., Ltd., Miss M. Brown, Miss if. B. Lovell-Smith, Miss Moore, Mrs Cooper, the Rev. It. de Lambert. Mrs Fraer, and"from two anonymous donors. The financial report stated that expenses for the week ending August 6th nmounted to £SO 5s 6d, and for the week ending August 13th £49 10b 7d; liabilities amounted to £lO 6s sd, and the estimate for the coming -week was LoO 4s. A notice of motion, to rescind the pievious decision to exclude reporters from the meetings of the committee, lapsed for want of a seconder.
