METHVEN STOCK SALE. The fortnightly stock sale was • held in the Methven saleyards on Thursday, when all classes of stock were yarded in larger numbers than at the salo two weeks ago. There was an exceptionally large number of farmers present, but there was no great animation iu the market. The fat sheep section was over-supplied, and prices were dragging throughout. There was also a poor safe for store sheep, probably on account of a shortage of feed in the district. The first 1 , pen of ewes and lambs offered this season were penned, and these were sold at 4s lid, all counted. A considerable entry of cattle brought low prices, but pigs were iu demand, and sold well. The principal sales recorded were:— Fat Sheep—Eleven fat ewes 6s 6(1, 13 ewes 6s, 22 at 4s 6d, 3 9 at 5s 6d, 1 -fat wether 15s 9d, 51 ewes 8s 6d, 12 at Bs, 12 at 8s 6d, 19 at 8s 3d. Store Sheep—Twenty-two mixed sex threequarterbred hoggets at 6s 7d, 98 full and failing-mouth halfbred ewes and lambs at 4s lid all counted, 33 three-quarterbred hoggets at Bs, 40 wether hoggets at 5s 7d, 3 7 halfbred ewes in lamb at 5s 7d, 45 halfbred ewes in lamb 5s 3d, 11 two-tooth wethers at 8s 9d. Cattle —One springing heifer £6 7s 6d. 2 fat steers £6 10s, 3 springing heifers at £4. lat £3 2s 6d, 1 at £3, 1 at £2, 4 yearling heifers at lis, 1 steer at 10s, 1 heifer £3 15s, 1 heifer in profit £5. cows in profit £2 15s. 1 bull 10s, 1 yearling steer 15s, aged cow £2 2s 6d, 3 steer calves for 22s od. 4 heifer calves at lis. Jolinsouville sale bullocks were easier bv 5s to 10s per head, while . cows were slightly easier. Wethers and'good ewes showed no alteration in price, while inferior ewes were slightly ea-sier. Hoggets were in short supply, and consequently prices were slightly firmer.
