DIPS AND DIPPING.
A FEW POINTS. Careless dipping and the use of inferior grade dipping materials are too common. Good dipping is as necessary as good feeding. It is not possible to completely eradicate parasitic infestation in sheep any more than it is possible to eradicate completely disease or illness amongst human beings. The objective, therefore, must be adequate control, and this can be obtained as to render parasitic infestation practically harmless to the general welfare ot' the ,sheep. There is all the diffe»ence in sheep having a 1 few ticks and the ticks having the sheep. The market is well supplied with sheep dips of the very highest, quality, the product of makcrs t who have for years specialised in their manufacture, and who have expended considerable sums in research into the purpose for which sheep dips arc made and used. Under normal conditions and proper usage such sheep dips cannot fail to control ticks and lice, and at the same time improve the growth of wool and general health of the sheep. Ag a result of the depression and ery for "cheap dips," preparations of doubtful merit may appear on the market. Before using these materials, farmers will be well advised to first make full enquiry into the source of manufacture, and to make quite sure that they are buying the product of sheep dip manufacturers of uudoubti- 1 «x----perience and reputation, otherwise the small saving in initial cost may be to- j tally smothered by widespread damage to the flock. It is onlv by using the best quality sheep dips that dipping can be made worth while, ami it is only by using such dips in accordance with manufacturers' instructions that the best results will be obtained.
