RANG-lORA. The monthly meeting of tlio Rangiora Borough Council -was held last evening:. Present: The Mayor (Mr W. A. Rowse), Crs. It. Mcintosh? R. R. Gillanders, J. A. Ivory, C. W. Tyler, H. K. Kippenberger, F. E. Martyn, J. C. Scott, and T. J. Hendren. \ The Canterbury Fire and Accident Underwriters' Association wrote in connexion vith the redaction of insurance rates, stating tnat the insurance companies had decided to reduce the insurance rates for the portion ot the borough as defined in a certain area from classification F. to classification D, as from September Ist. The reduction on individual buildings and contents varied, according to tariff provisions. The reduction was contingent on the understanding that the fire brigade would continue under municipal and volunteer control. The Works Committee recommended that 1000 pinus insignia trees be purchased, and that the offer of the Borough School to supply about 300 of these trees be accepted, the trees to be planted in Dudley Park. The recommendations were approved. On the recommendation of the General Committee it was decided that where possible purchases be made from the Jubilee Institute for the Blind. The gas manager reported that tons of coal had been used, producing 697,000 cubic feet of gas, showing over 13,300 cubic feet per ton of coal. Twenty-four and a half tons of coke were sold. / The electrical engineer reported that the units recorded at the Southbrook station on July 31st, 1932, was 44,940 (1931, 49,660). The peak load was registered on Tuesday. 19th, between 5.30' and 6 p.m.', and shows a slight increase over the corresponding period last year. The librarian reported that the number ot subscribers to the library was 238 adults and 22 children. Subscription? amounting to £8 8s Gd were paid. It was decided that the Ashley River Trust be written to asking what procedure it intended to follow if a loan was raised to carry out works for the Trust. Accounts amounting to £9OO 4s 4d were passed for payment.
