FRUIT EXPORT.

GROWERS CONFER.

ANNUAL CANTERBURY GATHERING.

The provincial conference of exporting fruitgrowers of Canterbury, which precedes the annual conference of the New Zealand Fruitgrowers' Federation, Ltd., to be held in Wellington next month, was held in the Chamber of Commerce yesterday morning. Mr T. C. Brash, president of the Board of Directors of the Federation, presided over a good attendance. Tn a review of the export markets for fruit, M<£ Brash said that the problems of fruit export ''were going to bo easier settled at Ottawa than many other of the problems cf the primary producers if indications were correct in their forecast. "I think there are better days ahead," Mr Brash continued. "The exporters of fruit have never had a boom and it is true that those who have not been high up do not fear a fall. However, fruitgrowers have been having a thin time and it is pleasing to be able to say that I am certain that there are brighter times ahead." Mr Brash explained the methods adopted by the Federation in marketing its fruit and maintained that the first consideration in making all decisions was that they be for the whole of the fruitgrowers and not merely for a small section of them. The conference discussed over 80 remits to the Dominion conference from various organisations of growers in New Zealand and gave instructions as to how Canterbury delegates were expected to act on the matters to come before the conference. Mr E. A. Stead was elected to represent the exporting growers of Canterbury at the Dominion conference on September Bth, in Wellington.
