Advice was also received from the Unemployment B°ara that the free meat for the unemployed would bo discontinued at the end or the present month. The resignation ot tho -secretary, Mt J. M Fraser, was accepted, and Mr H. .M. Chappell was appointed to the position.

KAIKOURA. The Kaikoura Town School Committee met on Wednesday evening, Mr A. W. Barker (chairman) presiding. The headmaster reported that the average attendance for the secondary department for the past month was 22, a"nd the present roll was 2(1, while in the primary department the av rage attend ance was 145, and the present roll 159 During the month the scl»-K)l was visited by Mr J. The members of Loyal Orange Lodge, No. 4, Ulster True Blues, held their annual social recently. The hall was decorated in orange and purple streams, evergreens, and paper flowers. The grand march was led by Wor. Bro. and Mrs J. Grimley and the Canterbury District Lodge was represented by Wor. Bro. F. R. Lege and Mrs Legg. The Workers' Educational Association held the weekly meeting at the schoolroom, Hornby. Mr George Manning read the play "Churchill.' A magie lantern lecture on India is to be given at tho next meeting. HORORATA. Tho following teams have been ■selected to represent Hororata in the Malvern Hockey Association's seven-a-side primary schools' tournament at Darfield to-morrow:-—A team: Q. Gibson (captain), Joyce McKenzie, Mavis Butt, Daphne McKenzie, Noeline Gray, I'reda and Marjorio Stevenson. it team: Neta McKenzie, Noelme Foster, Ena Wells, Joan Keltic, Pearl Hicht Ena Stevenson, and Joyce Hore. PREBBLETON. There was a large attendance at a dance organised by the Prebbleton Uugby Football Club and held in the Public Hall. Music was supplied by Stamler's Band, Miss Joyce Kolkman and Mr J. Smith contributing extras. hi a waltzing competition the prize ottered by Mr C. Newman tor the best, couple was nwarded to Miss Jean Warren and Mr Maurice Cuneen. Winrers of other competitions organised during the evening were Mr and Mrs H Cherry, Miss Joyce Lewis and Mr Jack Rogers. The M.C. was Mr C. Tiands.
