WINTER SHOW.

ANOTHER SUCCESSFUL DAY. HUNDREDS OF CHILDREN ATTEND. Apart from the 3700 adults and-the 567 children who attended the Winter Show yesterday, hundreds of sehool children in parties visited the Barracks and had the time of their lives., In the charge of teachers they sampled all the joys and wonders to which they had been looking forward for weeks and many others which they could not possibly' have imagined. In the morning over 640 school children attended from the St. Albans, Papanui, Shirley, and St. Mark's Schools, and in. the afternoon a contingent of more, than- 1000 visited the show from the Cashmere, W.altharn, Aranui. Normal;. East Christchurch, Burwood, and the Victory Memorial Schools. -■'.••' . , A really good afternoon's or evening s entertainment and education is afforded bv-a visit to the Barracks. Under bright lights and in the midst of. colourful decorations are attractive displays of .the'best that town and country can produce. The exhibition is an imposing and enlightening presentation of the produce from which the wealth of the community is derived, and a visit will :show. what both,primary and secondary industriesrare-doing in developing the :country's ; resources. To-day's programme is as follows:- — Punch and Judy pantomime, 3 p.m.; Woolston Band overture, 7.30 p.m.;-the Robot, 8.20 p.m.; Mr Buckett's gymnastic pupils' display, 8.30 p.m.; the Robot, 9 p.m. Selections will be played throughout the evening by the Woolston Band, and the Robot will also perform during the morning and afternoon sessions. Agricultural Clubs' Prizes. -. - Yesterday afternoon tho prizes: in connexion with the North Canterbury Boys' and Girls' Agricultural Clubs were presented at the show by the president of the Canterbury A. and P. Association (Mr W. J. Jenkins, Sheffield). Mr Jenkins said that the. boys and girls, in starting their life work, were getting a great deal of experience and information from their membership of the clubs. In the old days they would not have been able to get the same opportunities of education; but to-day they had facilities which would enable them to go right ahead. Mr Jenkins congratulated the children on the progress their clubs had made during their three .years of existence. The awards were: — '- • Potato-growing —Sutton's cup for championship, Nancy M, Brown (Ouruhia): best cultivated plot, J. L. Stead; best record chart, Marie Brown; best crop, William Nell (Cheviot).
