LECTURE AT CANTERBURY COLLEGE. Mr J. Packer, M.Sc., addressed member* of tho Canterbury branch of the New Zealand Institute of Cbemistiy, at Canterbury College last night. Mr B. 0. Page presided over a good meeting. Mr Packer's ■ subject w»i the electronic theory of Valency. It was ehowp haw the knowledge of atomic- structure had enabled : chemists to "arrive at a'.better uaderstandjns of -what •happens when atoms' write to torn molecules,,- and hence of the-nature of the chemical bond. This knowledge had enabled the chemist to • correlate :» vast number of which had hitherto seemed entirely unrelated.' Knowledge of - atomic structure i to-day had been advanced by the work of Lord Kutherford and Bohr. Mr Packer illustiated his points by means of sumerou* foimulie.
