AN OLD TIMER. Old Port Chalmers residents recall with interest tho brigantine Camilla, which, was a. well-known trader there in the 'eighties. Flying the American fia« and manned by negro A.B.'a and cook, the Camilla arrived at Port ■'■Chalmers in ISSJ from New York. At that period "her'history ■'included' as an outstanding incident the -fact that she had once been a war vessel, reputedly French. WHiie at Port Chalmers the brigantine was sold to a, local fiinV and her 'first coastal cargo under the., new flag -was a load of Port' Chalmers stone for Auckland. The CrmiUa became a regular trader, JJventutually with a cargo of guano on board she foundered near Centre Island, in Foveauit Strait, but her crew was saved.
