ST. GEORGE'S HOSPITAL CHAPLAINCY FUND. The Jiimcs Edward Fitzgerald purse was filled yesterday morning by Mrs Kilgour Thomson in the college of which Mr Fitzgerald was one of the most enthusiastic iounders. There are therefore now seven of the Pilgnui purses filled. James Edward Fitagerald was a brilliant Irishman, who did a to popularise the Canterbury scheme in ffiand. He saUed with the First Four Ships, and had the proud disfanction of being the first ot the £fe™*» to set foot on the shores of the new colony on December 16th, 1860. J» SHaeted the first Suj>ermtendentrf the Canterbury province on July TO, 1853. He earnestly foundation of Chrfet's CoUegc and himself drew up the deed of foundation of Mav 21st. 1855. He was one of the fiXt Fellows of the college He subSted the name of his own Cambridge Col£ (X college of the present.prinC&Church College, a name which had been previously chosen to commemorate its close connexion wjth the Sons Oxford foundation.- He was mainly instrumental n securing ifce "resent site of the college school. 1* 1854 he became for a very short time the first Premier of New Zealand.
