COUNTY COUNCILS
TAWERA. At the monthly meeting of the Tawera County Council there were present: Crs. H. A. Millar (chairman), J. TK. JMcAlplne, W. K. McAlplne, R. Milliken, H. 0. Aznyes, and E.' M. Johnson. A deputation from the local business men waited on the council with the request that the council undertake the licencing of hawkers and pedlars. If was decided to give the matter favourable consideration. ' \ The Counties' Association advised that as a result' of negotiations with the Electric Power Boards' Association regarding the cost of removal of transmission poles, the Power Boards' Association had agreed to recommend to the. affiliated Boards that the cost of removal of not more than ten poles in one operation be shared equally as between the Power Board and the council, and that for larger operations the apportionment of cost be settled by arbitration. The Commissioner of Transport wrote asking for th« council's opinion regarding the payment of heavy, traffic fees in respect of farmers' lorries. It was decided to reply that the Council considered that these vehicles should not be liable for the full amount of fees. An application under the Unemployment Board's small farm scheme was recommended for favourable consideration.
