CITIZENS' RELIEF ASSOCIATION.
MEETING OF EXECUTIVE. A meeting of the Citizen*' Unemployment and Belief Association was held yesterday. Present were.—Mr Ge/jrge Harper (chairman), Mrs A. 1. Fraer, Bishop Brodie, the Rev. P. Revell, Pastor Stevens, Major R. A. How, Messrs F. W. J. Belton, W. W Scartf, 0. H. Virtue, V. French, and J. W. Crampton. Acting-Director's Beport. The report of the actingrdirector (Mr C. H. Virtue), showed that in comparison with last year, to date, 735 more families had been given relief. Donations of goodsfor the week ending August 6th had been made to the value of £lO5 Is 2d. There .was a credit balanae of £3B ss, t°se ther with a reserve account of £354 to carry on with after the allocation from the Mayor's Distress fund had been exhausted. . Boot and shoe repairs had been heavy. Since July 14th f 100. had been served with clothing. The needs of these families had been fairly well supplied, and only m a few cases sbquld there be any need to turn for further clothing this winter, but there was a great of women's and children- s underclothing, and boy's clothing. The severe wintry weather last weeK-ena had reduced the returns from the Pound Scheme. _± ■ -: " The chairman (Mr George. Harper) said that in soayortwo he expected that a cheque for £BSO would be received from the Owners' and Breeders: Association for one half of ceeds received from the Relief rrotting meeting, held in July last. A hearty vote of thanks was passed to the association. It was decided to pass a Tote' or thanks to those schoolboys who had collected .goods for the Pound Scheme last Saturday, in spite' of the tbos* unfavourable weather. It was stated that although there were only about! a quarterof the usual number collect, ing. the "returns had been the best for some period. Appreciation was also expressed or the Mavor's action in forwarding to the association for distribution two cords of wood and a quantity of potatoes. BOYS' COMMITTEE. The Boys' Employment Committee has drafted regulations which recommend that all unemployed boys who ate registered should attend vocational and recreational classes. The committee is organising a-boys' employment month, and a meeting of all unemployed boys and their parents is called by the Y.M.C.A; for to-morrow at 8 pan.
