POSITION OF SMALL CLUBS.

TRANSFER OF CONTROL. Proposals for the transfer of control of five of the sm»ller cricket clubs in the City from the Canterbury Cricket Association to the Christchurch Suburban Association will be completed shortly. It was stated at a meeting of the committee of the Canterbury Association last evening that, after a conference with the representatives of the Sub: urban Association, m agreement had been reached -which would result in the transfer of five clubs—T.M.OX, Merivale, Papanuu Spreydon, and Sumner—to the Christchurch Suburban Association, with affiliation with that body, and the transfer of Kangiora t*> the North Canterbury Association s control. A sub-committee was appointed to meet tne Suburban Association and complete the The decision to transfer the smaller clubs is the outcome of, discussion between the two associations on proposals for the improvement of the standard of cricket in the province. It was felt that the efficient eontrol of the clubs at present affiliated to the Canterbury Association was difficult because of their unwieldy number, and that a balaneing-up of the scope of the two authorities controlling the sport would make for better administration. The proposals agreed to will' leave the control of the eight senior clubs and the secondary J schools to the association. The Christchurch Suburban Association will watch the interests of the rest of the clubs. At the same time arrangements will be made whereby promising players in the minor clubs will be watched, with a View to transfer to the higher grades.' ' The arrangements for. the transfer of control were embodied in the following resolutions passed by the Canterbury' Association: (a) That the Suburban Association would place no obstacle io the way of any lower grade team from the association joining up with the Suburban Association, thus permitting the Canterbury Cricket Association to confine" its competitions to the eight senior clubs and the secondary schools. (b) That a bye should be created in the Canterbury Association second grade competition —preferably by bringing up a second team from a club to be named—and tbft the team having a byo each round should melt the team having the bye in the Suburban Association's senior competition. These games to be played on association' wickets, except in the case of the match against the Sunnyside team. (c) That some satisfactory method of arranging for the most promising of the suburban players to transfer to the Canterbury Association's teams be made. A sub-committee, eensisting of the chairman (Mr W. Simpson), and Messrs W. L. King and A. Dey, was appointed to meet the Christchurch Suburban Association to complete the proposals, which have been endorsed by both the committee of the association and the Suburban Association.
