NORTH CANTERBURY.
—— KAIKOURA. On Saturday the Rangiora Boys High School, winners of the North Canterbury junior Competition, will play against the Kaikoura juniors the Amuri Shield. This is the first occasion on which a match for tn® Amuri Shield has been played in Kaikoura. as last season Kaikoura won the suield by default. The following players have been selected to represent Kaikoura: ©• Eaton, \V. Crawford, A. Devinc, U. Crawford, K. Osmond, W. Gibson, K. Roberts, 13. JJorthwick, 13. Sabiston, D. Wallace, J. Stack; C. Stack, M. Fletcher, F. Pablecheque, D. Mclnness. Emergency, J. Rainey. There was a good attendance at the dance held by the gymnasium girls iu the .Masonic Hall. Music was supplied by (Misses Alma Flower, Lena Williams, L. Lane, and Doris Pluck. Mr Les. Sabiston was M.C. , A dance was held in the Oddfellows Hall under the supervision of tho members of the Loyal Heart of Oak Lodge. Music was supplied by Misses M. Eaton, Jean Thomas, and M. Trudgcon. Mr S. Eaton was M.C. HANMER SPRINGS. The monthly meeting of the School Committee was held in the schoolroom, Mr H. Farrow (chairman) presiding. Tho schoolmaster reported that there were 5-1 children on the roll, and that tho average attendance for the past month was 47.7. A dance was held in the Ilaniner Hall on Saturday by the Hanmer Footbail Club for tho purpose of raising funds to purchase football jerseys tor the schoolboys' team. The lucky spot waltz was won by Miss Esme Savage and Mr Norman Savage. During the evening a full outfit of jerseys was presented to tho schoolmaster. The music for the dancing was played by Miss Thelma Parsons, Messrs J. Barber, and N. Toder, and extras by Mrs Murphy and Mr It. O'Loughlin. Mr J. liny was M.C. The meeting of the Workers' Ed nota-tion.-i 1 Association was presided over by Mr N. E. Toder. Tho subject for the evening was ''The Silver Box," by J. Galsworthy: The parts were taken by Mrs A. H. Tovey, Misses J. McNab and G. Med dins, and Messrs E. Chappcll, M. Whale, J. Hay, and D. M. Lewis. Mr G. F. Alley addressed the circle on "Germany of To-day," and discussed with members the principal causes leading up to the present condition of that country. Tho Fire Brigade held a church parade on Sunday morning. There was a good attendance. The members, of the Firo Board also attended. Tho service was held in tho Anglican Church, and was conducted by tho Rev. E. B. Moore. The hardest frost of the winter was registered on Thursday last, when 26.7 degrees were recorded at the State Forest Service Station. AMBERLEY. At the monthly meeting of the Amberley School Committeo there were present: Mr E. Chamberlain (chairman), Mrs R. Lambie. Mrs C. Had ley, Messrs J. Boycc, J. 1? arquhar, A. Hislop, and A. Lukey (secretary). The headmaster's report was received, showing the roll number to be 119, with a good average attendance. Accounts amounting to £3 15s were passed for payment. Mrs Lambie and Mrs Hadley were appointed a visiting committeo for tho month.
