NORTH CANTERBURY.
I LOBURN. There was a good attendance at -he weekly social held in the North Loburn Hall. The prizes for competitions were won by Miss Laura Bennett and Mr A. Andrews. The basketbail and football teams from the Tuahiwi School journeyed f -° Loburn to play the local school teams. Both games resulted in a win ~oburn. Miss G. Telford and Mr J. Robb were the referees. OHOKA. The annual bachelor's ball, held * n Ohoka, was largely attended. Iwusi' was provided by Bennett's band Christchurch, and extras- by. members of the band, and Mesdames and Cook, and Mr W. Maver. Messrs « Power, H. Lucas, and T. Power were M.C.'s. ISLINGTON. Misses Gwen Rowlands and Sheila Maiiie (Islington) are leaving to-day for Wellington on holiday. A presentation was made to Miss Jessie Kelly, who is leaving the frigerating Company to be married Mr Powell, 011 behalf of the employees of the preserves department, presented Miss Kelly with a wicker chaii and a satin cushion. LITTLE RIVER. Miss Joan Cradock, of the Ashburton Hospital nursing staff, is at present on holiday, and is visiting her mother, Mrs J. C. Cradock, Little River. Miss Una Perkins, who has been infant mistress at the Little River Main School, has left for her new position at Gisborne. The pupils of the infant classes or the Little River Main School and their parents met at the school room on Wednesday afternon to say good-bye to Miss Perkins. Mrs C. J. Cradock, on behalf of the children, presented Miss Perkins with a brass bowl. Mr W. R. Leeder, Wairewa County Clerk, who underwent an operation in St. George's Hospital (Christchurch) a fortnight ago, returned to Little River on Wednesday evening.
