A questionnaire on new ZEALAND CULTURE.

TO THE EDITOR OK TUB PRESS. £rfr.—l am writing to ask tor the co-operation ot your readers in the research I am carrying out into certain aspocts of New Zealand culture. I have drawn up a questionnaire and I shall be deeply grateful if as many of your readers as possible will reply to it. To be effective the replies will have to be numerous and drawn from a wide range of readers. Though, superficially, tho questionnaire may seem trivial, if not impertinent, replies to it will bo of great value in what is rather a social than, in the narrow sense, a purely literary investigation.! I append the questionnaire: — (1) What are your six "favourite writers (prose or verse)? (2) What are the characteristics that appeal to you most in the above writers ? (3) Do you read magazines regularly? . What arc the titles of those you read most often? (1) Do you enjoy reading poetry? What sort of poetry appeals to you ?. (5) Have you road any New Zealand books? If so, what was your opinion of them? (6) What facilities have you tor obtaining reading matter? I should he very glad to receive any comments flint your readers may care to make ab6ut the state of literature and culture generally in New Zealand (e.g., the possible emergence of distinctive art and literature, the extenlf and nature of American irfßucnce ou our culture, tho desirability of encouraging art and literature). Communications from New Zealand writers will be especially valuable. Would those readers who are sufficiently interested to reply to my questionnaire kindly state their occupation, age, and sex (names are not required) and forward their answers to me?— Yours, etc., E. H. McCORMICK. Clare Colleges Cambridge, June lGth, 1932,
