* SOCIAL AND PERSONAL. Miss Phyllis Pigott, Wai-iti road, is staying in Christchurch. Mr and Mrs H. Sallery (Auckland), are staying at the Grand Hotel. Miss Hope Belfield (England) is the guest of Mrs Bradshaw (Waimate). Mrs Michael Barker (Woodbury) is the guest of Mrs Norman Hope ("The Grampians," Mackenzie Country). Mrs G. Friend (Moana Vale, Temuka), who has been staying with Mrs Slocombe, Evans street, has returned home. Miss Catherine Johnstone ("Springbank," Otaio) will leave at the end of the week to join the winter sports party at Naseby. Mrs R. H. Hunter Weston will arrive from Mt. John, Tekapo, to-day, to spend a few days with Mrs Gladstone Robinson (Oakwood). Hose Ulrich (Dunedin), who was
the guest of Mrs F. F. A. Ulrich, Elizabeth street, is now staying with Mrs G. H. It. Ulrich, Wai-iti road. Mrs Olive Crozier, who has been staying with her mother, Mrs T. W. Satterthwaite, Elizabeth street, has returned to Christchurcli. Miss Tripp (Orari Gorge) J who was the guest of Mrs Howard Tripp, Waiiti road, left yesterday to stay with Mrs Basil Umvin ("Silver Hill," Albury). An engagement is announced between Mary Catherine (May), daughter of Mr and Mrs Johw Sheehan, Park avenue, Timaru, and Frederick Douglas Joseph, only son of Mrs Crowle, of Timaru, and the late Mr Frederick Crowle, formerly of Bealey avenue, Christchurcb, and Waimate. Recent arrivals at the Grosvenor Hotel include Mr and Mrs T. Perry, Messrs H. F. Markha.m, E. Alirbom, D. Mullan (Christchurcb), H. G. Wickes (Palmerston North), A. Macfarlane (Christchurch), Y. S.
