FRENCH SILENCER TRIALS. After having attempted to silence milk floats, trains, river steamers, hotel guests, and a host of other things, the Touring Club de France is tackling the problem of making the French motor cycle less noisy (reports the "Motor Cycle"). It has asked the Motocycle Club de Franceto organise a competition for silencers, and has placed at its disposal a sum of about £6OO to be distributed ih cash prizes to the most successful. The competition "will be a laboratory test. • Efficiency of the apparatus as 'a.silencer will be measured by a soundrecording apparatus; back pressure readings will be obtained by bench tests; and the size of the apparatus and its cost will also be taken into con- . sideration. Two types of engines will ba used, for the tests, one being a 175 c.c. two-stroke and the other a 350 c.c. four-stroke. "ETJBEKA"—WE HAVE IT!
