| PERSONAL. | ! (special to the press.) GREYMOUTH, June 30. Mrs J. Sutherland (Annat) is visiting relatives in Greymouth. In view of her approaching marriage, Miss N. Reid, of the staff of the Holdtilca District High School, was met by the staff and presented with a reading lamp, while the pupils of the school presented her with a leather suitcase. Mr J. B. Lcggo (Nelson) is visiting the West Coast. Mr N. Bobinson, who has been visiting the West Coast, returned to-day to Wellington. Miss O. Evan has left for Westport, where she will spend a holiday with her parents, going from there to Auckland. Single Men's Camps. At a meeting of the Greymouth branch of the unemployed workers, the single men's camps were declared "black." It was reported that the sum of £ls had been allotted from the Mayor's fund to the committee, and it was decided that of the amount, £lO would be allocated to relief of men over 20 years of age, and the balnnco to those under that age. Whitebait' The Hokitika whitebaiters had a conference yesterday with the Inspector of Fisheries, t Mr Hefford, Mr J. O 'Brien, M.P. also being present. The regulations for whitebaiting were fully discussed, and certain amendments were approved. It was stated that the license was. to be 10s per annum, and that rigid inspection would be imposed on those fishing for their private uso only. G-reymouth Cemetery. The Greymouth Cemetery has recently been extended at Karoro, sufficient ground for 800 plots having been acquired by the Greymouth Borough Council, for the purpose. Miniature Rifle Shooting. The first competition for the J. E. Edmonds Cup was fired last evening by the Greymouth Miniature Eiflo Club. C. Richardson and J. Molloy tied for the Hotty button, with 68 off the rifle. The top scorers were, C. Richardson, J. Molloy, J. Phibbs, 11. Ilea™, and E. Senior, who scored 70 each. Hockey. At Hokitika yesterday, Hokitika and Rovers A hockey teams met. Hokitika was slightly the better team, and won after an exciting game, by " goals to 1. Playing at Kokatahi, the homo team defeated Rovers B by !> to i!. Obituary. The death has occurred at Millerton. of Mrs' Agnes McKinley, an old resident of that district. The death occurred at Reefton Hospital on Tuesday of Mr Thomtis Watt, a well-known resident of the district. He was single and 7-1 years of age. Returned Soldiers' Association. The Greymouth branch oi: the Returned Soldiers' Association is making an appeal for all returned soldiers who are in a position to do so to join up with the branch. The secretary, Mr T. P. Ryan, states that tho financial members are only those on tho executive of the branch, and, outside subscriptions of members, the only revenue of the branch is £25 quarterly from the Canteen Fund. Rugby Union. At a meeting of tho West Coast Bugby Union, Mr A. A. Adams, president, presiding, it ms decided to carry out the wishes of the New Zealand Union regarding the laws of the game, as laid down by the International Board, and to request tho Wcstland and Lake Brunner Sub-unions to do tlic same. The Canterbury Union wrote that on the score of expense it had been found imposiblc to arrange a match for the representative Canterbury B team at Greymouth. It was stated that August 27th would be a more suitable date to tho Canterbury Union to arrange a match with West Coast at Christchurcli, than would September 10th. Tt was also asked if the match was intended to bo a Eanfurly Shield match, as if it were, West Coast -would be entitled to reasonable expenses under the rules. It was decided that the date named by Canterbury be accepted and that the match'be for the Shield. It' was decided to inform the New Zealand Union that tho Union did not favour tho proposal to supply Now Zea-land-made balls to school teams, if being considered that there were other directions in which school football clubs could be assisted, and that it was not thought advisable to take the sale of footballs away from local dealers. Association Football. The West Coast Football Association have received advice from their New Zealand representative, Mr Y. Cornaga, that Messrs John Dewar and Sons, Ltd. will present the Association with a silver cup to be known as tho Dewar Challenge Cup tor inter-provincial junior competition. Otira, Tunnel. The largest quantity of coal to be forwarded through the Otira Tunnel on any ono day this year, was sent yesterday, when 2800 tons were railed. Fall of Earth. A fall of earth last night at the Eeefton Coal Company's mine, injured a miner, Aloe MacKenzie, who had several ribs broken and was badly bruised and shaken. He was admitted to the Eeefton Hospital for medical attention.
