INCOME TAX PAYERS.
BRITISH TOTAL EXCEEDS 4,000,000. {BBITISH OFFICIAL WIBELESS.) (Received June 2nd, 5.5 p.m.) RUGBY, June 1. It is provisionally estimated by the Treasury that the recent alterations in the graduation of income tax renders 2,000,000 more persons chargeable to tho tax in the present financial year. The Financial Secretary of the Treasury, Major W. E. Elliott, who made this statement in the House of Commons, said that, according to these provisional estimates, the number now actually paying tax was between 4,000,000 and 4,250,000 persons.
