SUMNER BEAUTIFYING ASSOCIATION.
monthly MEETING HELD. The monthly meeting of the Suninei Beautifying and Beacli Improvement Association was held last night in the Town Hall. Mr S. K. Bassett, the president, was in the chair. A letter was received from Miss Wilson, of Clifton, containing suggestions for beautifying some of the Sumner streets. Jlr G. Humphreys wrote enclosing a gift to the funds. The secretary was instructed to write to Mrs Fountain Barber expressing the Society's sympathy in her illness. The treasurer, Mr W. V. Siddall, reported a credit balance of £lO 16s Id. Mr J. Young, the secretary, reported upon the possibilities of decorative work on the roadside at Shag Bock corner. It was decided to do this in the spring if possible. ' It was decided to write to the Curator of the Christchurch Botanic Gardens thanking him for gifts of bedding plants. Mr Ba&sett, reported that with Mr J. Young and Mr G. Harper, he. had inspected the Scarborough reserves. The trees planted after the fire in the summer had been badly affected by the drought. On the motion of Mr 11. Buttle, it was decided to apply to the Forestry Department for trees to replace those destroyed by fire.
