THE WEATHER. Meteorological observations taken at the Magnetic Observatory, Christchurch, at 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. on June 2nd:

Auckland —The weatlipr was fino yesterday, with bright sunshine thioughout the day and a light breeze from the south-west. Tho barometer fell gradually, tho reading in the evening being 29.85. Wellington—The weather was bright and sunny yesterday, with a light breezo from the north. Dunedin—A light westerly wind and fine weather prevailed yesterday, but the sky was overcast. The maximum temperature was GO degrees. The barometer had little movement and registered 29.90. Forecast. General Situation —Barometers have been gradually falling, but they are fairly uniform over the Dominion to-day. Tho northern depression is passing eastwards, and an exten-

sive westerly depression now covers southeastern Australia. Wind —Variable, but gradually tending northerly; later freshening. Seas (New Zealand waters) —Still lather rough north of Ea-st Cape and about Foveaux Strait, elsewhere smooth to moderate. Eastern Tasman Sea^—Freshening west to north winds; seas moderate, but later rising.
