MANY ATROCITIES IN LIBERIA. INVESTIGATION URGED. (UXITEI) PRESS ASSOCIATION—BY SLECTBIC ( TELEGBAPH—COPVBIGHT.) GENEVA, May. 18. The killing or burning alive of men, women, and children, and tho firing of 44 villages, arc among the charges made against, tho Libcrian authorities admitted by the Libcrian delegation, which asserted that the measures were necessary to maintain order. Eighty-one men, 49 women, and 29 children aro known to have been ■ massacred, and many are believed to have been burned alive. The committee dealing with Libcrian affairs resolved to recommend urgently to the Council to send a representative to the Kru coast to assist in the pacification of the country and encourage the tribes to return to their villages under conditions of security.
