By the death of Mr Angus Somtaerville on April-4th at Wallasey, Liverpool, tho New Zealand Shipping Company has lost "a very valuable officer. For a nuiuber of years he had been engineer ;briperintendent for the West Coast ports, with headquarters at Liverpool. He caught a chill last Thursday, when he was on duty in the Bristol Channel, and died of pneu«ionia six days later.. '

A son of the late Mr Angus Setatucrville, chief engineer in the P. and O. Company, he was born in South* ampton in 1873. After an apprenticeship with the Great Eastern Company ho joined the &ew Zealand Shipping Company in 1894 as second refrijger* sting engineer. He rose to be ehfef engineer in August, 1903, and served on the Buapehu from that date until 1908. Afterwards he was chief engineer oh the Tarakina, the Ruahine, and the Retauera, and was known by a large circle of friends in New Zealand. He superintended the building of the Hororata, and made one voyage in .her, coming ashore for good in 1913. After servic€ as engineer-in-chargc of new tonnage in the various shipyards,, he <yas appointed in 1915 as superintendent engineer in London. In 1919 he was transferred to Liverpool
