HIGHER TAXES.
* BILL IN THE UNITED STATES. RAISING OVER 1000 MILLION DOLLARS. (UKITED TRESS ASSOCIATION—BY ELECTHIC TELEOBAPH—COPYRIGHT.) (Received May 10th, 5.5 p.m.) WASHINGTON, May 9. In the Senate the Tax Bill designed to raise 1,010,000,000 dollars was favourably reported on by the Finance Committee to-day by a unanimous vote. The leaders hope to effect its passage within the next two weeks. They will then attempt to compromise on the difference with the House of Representatives. The measure provides for higher taxes on individual and corporation incomes, and for.lower stock and bond transfer levies. It also provides a 10 cent tax on all cablegrams, including Press dispatches, which the House exempted.
