BOROUGH COUNCILS
» SUMNER. The regular meeting of the Sumner Borough Council was held, on Monday evening. Present: Mr W. 11. Nicholson (Mayor), and Crs. H. W. Harris, A. Holden, D. F. Oldridge, C. Hart, G. F. Allen, H. L. Wiggins, and J. E. Tait. The engineer's report stated that three broken pipes had been replaced in the Head street main. From Colenso street to tho outlet ou the beach the concrete portion of the main outfnll drain had been cleaned. On Evans' Pass road repairs had been effected and the water-tables cleaned. A low stone wall was being built on the sandhill side of the widened road. The report was adopted. In reply to a letter from the Town Clerk, Christchurch, on the Metropolitan Board of Works, the Sumner Town Clerk was instructed to give any necessary information. The Sumner Burgesses' Association wrote expressing appreciation of the Council's ability to reduce gas, electricity, and coke charges, and a reduction in the general rates. The Mayor reported that the audited bal-ance-sheet had been forwarded to Wellington. "It will be probably ono of tho first in Now Zealand," he added.
