Sumner .Club, in their initial shoot last week, and in this week.'s performance they luive put up very good scores, and are considered promising shots. At a meeting of the Sumner Volunteer Fire Brigade, held on Tuesday evening, the question of holding a social evening for the honorary members was discussed; It was decided that a card and billiards evening should be held towards the end of this month, the date to bo decided later. It was decided to write 1o the Akaroa Brigade with a view to arranging a programme of' events between the two brigades. The hope was expressed that, provided satisfactory arrangements could be made, the Akaroa Brigade would see its way clear to compete in the annual inter-seaside contest, held annually between the New Brighton. Lyttelton, and Sumner Brigades. Householders' Meetings, The annual meeting of: householders in Sumner, Kedcliffs, and Mount Pleasant will be held on Monday evening. As only the required number of members have been nominated, an election will be unnecessary to decide the Sumner School Committee. As the Kedcliffs and Mount Pleasant School have fewer than "•>0 pupils, nominations for the committees will be called at the respective meetings. Rugby Football. In the first game of the season, to bo played to-day, the third grade team will meet Spreydon on the Polo ground 2. It is difficult to gauge the strength of the local side, but as the team is practically the same as last year it should give a good account of itself. lor the fifth grade team a friendly game has been arranged against Bromley, at St. Leonard's square, at 2.45 p.m. This game has been arranged to give the selectors an idea of the playing abilities of the new members, and those who arc not included in the team are requested to attend as a trial is assured each member.
