Intending competitors will do well,to remember that entries-.for,, the. track' meeting to be heldijy the Pioneer Sports Club on the New Brighton Trotting grounds to-morrow week close at 9.30 this evening. The programme consists of six open handicap events over distances of three, four, and five miles, and as the meeting is in aid of the Mayor's Distress Fund there should be a big entry. The first race is timed to start at 2.15 p.m., and . after the speed events have been held there will be a live boar hunt, the animal having been presented by Mr Jos. Taylor. Mr George Henderson has ,becn appointed master of the hunt. Harry Mangham, who won the New Zealand Open Championship at .the Pioneer Sports Club meeting recently, added to his laurels last Monday by winning the Hawlce's. Bay Middleweight Championship, run at Napier, in ?min 2 l-ssec. The track was hot in the best condition for speeding; owing it? intermittent rain making it somewhat greasy. This accounted' for several spills, not one of which, however, was serious. The New Zealand Opsn Lightweight Championship, for which the standard distance as set out in the rules is eight miles, was run over a distance of nine miles, and won by D. K. Collison, of Palmerston North, in 12min 52 l-.jgee. The previous" holder was Ben Bray, of Auckland, who last year won the* title in 7min 52 2-osec.
