A FIRM FAVOURITE. STRENUOUS PREPARATION. (UNITED PBESB ASSOCIATION —BT ELECTRIC TELEGRAPH —COPTOIOBT.) (Received March 18th, 7.45 p.m.) AGUA CALIENTE, March 17. Six of the most prominent horses entered for the Agua Caliente Handicap on Sunday worked out against time on Thursday. Phar Lap easily ran through three-quarters of a mile in lmin 20sec, his performance firmly entrenching him in the favourite s position. Those in charge of Phar Lap's training said he had been put through a more strenuous period of preparation for this handicap than * for any races in Australia. Pilar Lap's jockey, Elliott, says: There is nothing else for the handicap but Phar Lap. I will just give the big horse his head and let him run as he likes. Turf authorities are of the opinion that Elliott is as good as the best American riders. The three leading candidates worked on the fast track to-day. Spanish Play did a mile in lmin 48sec, going easily. Marine covered nine furlongs in 2min 0 2-ssec. THE ANTIQUE CASE. DECISION OF CONFERENCE EXECUTIVE. (PRESS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.)
