SALMON RUN.

MANY FISH IN THE RAKAIA. GOOD PROSPECTS FOR EASTER. Good salmon fishing is reported from tho Rakaia, where, on Monday, two Christchurch anglers, Messrs F. Steans and A. Fuchs, took 10 fish,' of a total weight of 1631b, at about half a mile from the mouth of the river. Tho fish aro running well, and are in good condition. For the last ten days salmon had been running freely in the Rakaia, and could be seen in very large numbers as far as ten miles above the bridge, said Mr Steans. The fishing was excellent, and in eight years on, the Rakaia he had never known so many salmon to be in the riyer. They were in good condition, and were good fighters. It was common to get fish over 301b, and several had been caught scaling nearly 4010. There was no holding water at the mouth, and as a result tho fish were running straight up, and wore not knocked about, being quite silvery and fresh, 3Tor' some time there had been two mouths to the Rakaia, one at tho Southbridgc side, and the other at the Ashburton side, where the bulk of the water was running out. Both supplied good sport. Anglers would be better advised to fish above tho railway bridge. The fish were still running in and tho indications were that they would continue to do so, thus providing excellent sport over Easter. Salmon were being caught in good quantities every day, and bags of ten and eleven were not uncommon. Those at the mouth were generally smaller in size, the bigger fish of the run being already in the river, Tho fish should extend as far as the Gorge, but there would be good fishing from tho bridge up.
