ASHBURTON. CARS COLLIDE. A collision between two cars driven by Mr C. E. E. Beddoes, of Christchurch, \nd Mr Thomas Drennan, of Fairton, occurred at the intersection of the Methven and Kacecourse roads yesterday afternoon. Mtb Beddoes, who was with her husband, sustained severe cuts on her head and was treated as an out-patient at the Ashburton Hospital, . and was later admitted. Her condition was not serious. Both cars were badly damaged. Unemployment. The executive of the local Unemployment Committee met yesterday afternoon when the Deputy-Mayor (Mr K. Kerr) presided. In reply to a letter from the committee regarding the placing of men under tthe No. 4.A Scheme, the Stock Auctioneers advised that they would bo calling a meeting shortly. They stated the matter would receive their support: ' It was reported that the number of men receiving work next week was 181, and the amount required was £349 28. The allocation was £2ID 15s. It was decided to give ,the three and four ,day 'men two days, ihe balance to be divided among the most necessitous cases. ' , Mr A. Prentice said that the position in Ashburton for men with dependents was acute. Good, hard-working men with families, who had never before sought charitable aid, had visited him last week. He thought that the Board should again be approached for an increase' in the allocation. It was decided to send a telegram to the Board along the lines suggested by Mr Prentice, stressing the acute position. Fifteen applications under the No. 4A Scheme were granted. Missionary Union. A meeting of the Ashburton branch of- the Methodist Women's Missionary Union was held on Wednesday afternoon, when the president (Sister Mildred) presided over a fair attendance of members. It was agreed that meetings of the Women's Missionary Auxiliary in future be held on the third Thursday, instead of the third Wednesday of each month. The Treasurer reported that the proceeds from the annual effort on behalf of the funds held last month amounted to £2O 18s. It was decided that £2O be sent to-the Methodist Women's Missionary Union executive fund, towards payment of Sisters' salaries.
