DISTINGUISHED CAREER.
NEW PRESIDENT OF B.M.A. DR. G. HOME'S FINE RECORD. Ihc president-elect of the New Zealand branch of the British Medical Association, Dr. G. Home, of New Plymouth, has had a distinguished career. Of Scottish descent, but born in San Francisco, U.S.A., he came to New Zealand at an early age and was educated first at the Ilawera Public School and then at the Wanganui Collegiate School. From there he went to study at Edinburgh University, and later at King's College, London. In 1895 and 1896 he was house physician and house surgeon at the Northern Hospital, Liverpool, whence he returned to New Zealand and commenced practice of his profession in New Plymouth, continuing to 'lo so until the present time, except for the period of the Great War, during which he served his country with great distinction, first as regimental medical officer to the Wellington Infantry during the Gallipoli campaign, where the freedom from disease among the men was very largely due to his efforts. In 1916 he was medical officer in charge of the Baliner Lawn Section No. 1 N.Z. General Hospital, then becoming divisional surgical officer No. 2 N.Z. General Hospital, Wal-ton-on-Thames, and subsequently officer commanding No. 2 N.Z. General Hospital, with the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel.
Returning to New Zealand on the termination of the war Dr. Home again took up his residence at New Plymouth, where lie varied his private practice by filling the positions at the Public Hospital of assistant medical superintendent, assistant surgeon, and charitable doctor from 3920 to 1926.
These hospital duties added to a largo private practice have made him a very busy man, but he has found time to actively interest himself in various other directions and to take a large part in tlio social life of the community (states the Taranaki "Daily News"). He is a man of very wide learning and having an exceedingly retentive memory he has been in great request as a lecturer on various subjects, notably astronomy—he is president of the New Plymouth Astronomical Society—and the fauna and flora of New Zealand, the study of which ho has made a hobby. He is the holder of several medical and surgical degrees—M.B., C.U., M.D., Univ., Edin.. D.P.H., 8.C.P., and S. Eng.—and also of the following war decorations— N.Z.M.C., 0.8. E., Mil. .1918, and C.B.E. 1920.
