POLITICAL NOTES.
[From Our Parliamentary Reporter.] WEI/LINGTON, March 16. Easter Recess. Parliament will probably adjourn for a recess of nearly a fortnight at Easter, chiefly for the purpose of enabling Cabinet to devote attention to the material contained in the reports of the Economy Commissioners and the Economists ' Committee. Upon these reports the chief legislation of the session will be based, and as the Ministry has not had an opportunity to devote timo to them except at the week-ends, ten days to a fortnight at Easter will enable Ministers to draft a plan of the tSTe W. said today that the House would on Thursday afternoon, March 24th, but it is known that many members desire to leave on Wednesday evening and reach their homes on Thursday, iand Mr Forbes might bo persuaded to take an extra day. The resumption will be fixed for Tuesday, April oth, or following day, when the Government will make a serious endeavour to get ahead with the legislation required for the economic readjustment.
Public Works Dismissals. Keplying to Mr E. Langstone (Lab., Waimarino) in the House of Representatives to-day the Bt. Hon. J. G. Coates said that efforts were being advanced to make some provision for the men who were, being dismissed from public works. He would announce at a later date what form that provision would take. In the meantime a complete list of the men concerned, their qualifications, responsibilities, and occupations was being compiled with a view to ascertaining whether they could be absorbed in other avenues of employment. If employment could not be found at least some measure of relief would be furnished pending an improvement m tho general outlook.
