NORTH CANTERBURY CENTRE. WAIMATE-CHRISTCHURCH ROAD RACE. The North Canterbury Centre of the New Zealand Athletic. Cycling, and Axemen's Union 'met last evening, "the president (Mr W. J; Walter)' occupying the chair. There were also present : Messrs W. S.cottj J. B. Atkinson, J. M. Coffey, S. B. Kershaw, G. Henderson, fl. 3. McClelland, G. J. Sowden-, and P.C. Lupas (secretary). The application of the Leeston Athletic Club for affiliation was granted, and its submitted programme for its Easter meeting was approved. The New Zealand Athletic, Cycling, and Axemen's Union wrote explaining that Tarauftki -had been granted the 100 mile New Zealand road championship, when the Canterbury " Centre's 140 mile race wa3 recognised aa tho 140 mile road championship of the Dominion. The Taranaki Centre had asked for its race to be made an Australian and New Zealand championship, and this had been done. The Union would make application on behalf of the Canterbury Centre for its 140 mile race to be declared an Australian and New, Zealand championship, if desired. The Federal Cycling Council had . left the 25 mile Australian and New Zealand track cycling cham-pionship-open for allotment. Mr 'Walter said that the Mairehau Sports Club was the only, club' that. had a sports meeting in . which the championship could be included, and the race would b« held at English Park next Saturday afternoon.' SATURDAY'S SPORTS. The 25 miles Australian and New Zealand cycling championship will be decided at 'English Pork on 'Saturday afternoon. This is without doubt the most important track race ever held in the Dominion. The best cash cyclists, road and track, have nominated, and with a sprint every lap, the race promises to be a most thrilling one.-The championship hat been sanctioned by the Australian and .New Zealand Federal Cycling Council, and this is the first occasion/a race of this, importance has been allotted to a local club. The meeting at which the race ib to be decided is being conducted by the Mairehau Sports Club. ■ The; first portion of the lengthy programme consists of handicap running and cycling.
