The adoption of such methods was responsible for ous sales being quickly effected, and white the prices for travel-stained, backward conditioned, or uncertain mouth consignments were perhaps a shade easier than the basts of values that has been in evidence up to to-day, the fact that bona fide sales were being made continuously was responsible Jor holding the market generally, and all go?" two-tooth and sound-mouth ewes were realising the previous week's rates, and in soma eases exceeding them. When the size of tho entry is taken into consideration and the fact that at 4 o'clock there only remained •jSOO sheep to be sold, it must be a pleasant surprise to the owners of sheep to have the result of to-day's sale. Values were:—Fair to good two-tooths, l»s to 2ls: lighter sorts, 14s to 17s; culls, 10s 10 13%; sound mouth, lis to 12s; medium, 9» to 10s; uncertain or backward, 7» to as; others, 3s to 6s. In looking through the catalogue, fully to per cent, ol the entry was made up of uncertain aged sheep and low-conditioned sheep, and with one or two exceptions the consignments that were sent forward of young sheep, represented culls. The outstanding feature of the market was a lino of two-tooth ewes sent forward from Banks Peninsula, which left very little to be desired. Some of tho principal sales were: —Consignments of 100 and over: 346 Romney ewes, four, six, and eight-tooth, 13s; 143 half bred ewes, two-tooths, ex Cheviot, 18s Oil; 100 two-tooth Romneys, ex North Canterbury, L'Os; 437 crossbred four and five-year-old ewes, backward in condition and uneven woolled, 7a 4d to 8s sd; 313 four, six, and eighttooth halfbred ewes, 8s 6dj 3<lo four, six, and eight-tooth Romney ewes, 7s 3d; 278 four-year-old halfbred ewes, mixed wools, 10sCd; 123 six and eight-tooth ewes, line woolled, big frames, 7s lid; 160 crossbred two-tooth, owes, small, 13s; 100 two-tootn Corriddal* ewes, 17ft 6d; 300 two-tQoth owes, ex North Canterbury, 17s to 18s. The greater portion was represented by ewes of various grades. Tho larger catalogue of to-day was responsible for a reduction in the high basis of prices that existed last week, and the level of to-day's prices was equal to the rates ruling a fortnight ago. Many pens waro occupied by inferior and aged ewes, and these, of course, suffered considerably in value when compared ivith last week's rates. Export buyers were *ot over-keen in their purchases in this section.
