SIR FRANCIS BOYS.
A COMPLIMENTARY LUNCHEON. Members of the Christchurch Citizens' Association met at luncheon at Dixieland yesterday to extend a welcome to Sir Francis Boys, who has been on a business trip to England. Mr S. G. Holland, who presided over an attendance of 30, read a number of apologies for unavoidable absence, and stated that Sir Francis had to go abroad so often that . one hardly knew whether it was a welcome home or a. farewell. During the war, said Mr Holland, Sir Francis Boys was Director of Meat Supplies in England, and no one was more highly qualified to discuss the question .of - Imperial preference with regard to meat. Great Britain's : wartime population . required a. vast and comprehensive system of rationing, and the efforts of Sir Francis in controlling it were recognised by the Kiug, who conferred upon him a Knighthood." Sir Francis gave aft interesting, address on Imperial preference and the attitude towards the question Of people both in Great Britain and JNe\v Zealand. At the' conclusion of the address (reported elsewhere), the speaker was accorded a. hearty vote of thanks, on the motion of Mr J. .Murphy, seconded byMr -J. I£. l Moloney..
