ECONOMY COMMISSION.
CHAMBER OF COMMERCE TO ASSIST.. A committee was set up by the coun-, cil of the Canterbury Chamber of Commerce'last niglit to assist the Associated Chambers' committee in the -collection of evidence to go before the Government Economy Commission. , . - , It was reported that members of the executive -of • the - Associated Chambers at the last meeting of that body, had niueh. satisfaction at the decision of tiie Government to set ,up a National Economy Commission such as had beeu advocated.by the Associated Chambers. It was considered that evidence should be given and it was resolved "that the Government be asked' to grant permission to the' Association to submit its views, if not by way of evidence given by selected members of the executive, then by a. memorandum. In view of this, it was decided to circularise Chambers'to ask their views for incorporation iii the evidence; if necessary. The president (Mr A. O. Wilkinson) moved that, the council set up a committee to collect any evidence : which might be'rfortheoniing. In'seconding the motion, Mr B. E. H.. Wliitcombe expressed the wish that members would give all the assistance they could. Mr C. I*. Agar moved that each member of-the eouncil should write to tho committee to suggest • where economies in' the Government Department could inHheir opinion be effected. The matter was referred to the committee, which will consist of the president (Mr A. O. Wilkinson), Messrs W. Machin, C. P. Agar, : W. Bottrell, H. S; -E. Turner, A. C. Bretherton, T. Gibbs, and A. F. Wright. -
