NEW BRIGHTON POWERBOAT CLUB.
RACE TO PORT LEVY. To bring members together for a social outing, the New Brighton Power-Boat Club held a race from Lyttelton to Port Levy on Saturday. Conditions were ideal. Thord was a smooth sea, with a light following wind down Lyttelton Harbour which had died away by the time the competitors turned into Port Levy. The race started at 3.10 p.m., the boats competing being Whistler (W. Moorhouae), scr; Parani, scr; O'Marama (E. Carey), lmin; Nautilus (Campbell Bros.), Smin; Taranui (C. Hay); Koanier (P. Friedman), Pacific (L. Curtis), Smin; Waitea (C. Butcher), lOmin; Patari (O. Barnes), Seamew (F. Gill), and Lorelei (W. H. Browne), 18 min. Paranui wan half a minute late in crossing, end Nautilus lmin late. The scratch boat, Whistler, Was four minutes lata in getting away, and did not appear to bo running up fo her usual speed. The backmarkers had decreased considerably tho distance between them and tho limit boats on rounding Adderley Head. The finish was close and exciting. In a groat race for the line Seamew just beat Lorelei by threa seconds, the other limit boat, Patari, being close at hand third. The placed boats were:—Seamew (F. Gill) .. ..1 Lorelei (W. H. WIN FOR QUEENSLAND. (TJjriTED PRfcSS ASSOCIATION—BT BKfcCTltlO TELEQEAPH—COPYRIGHT.) (Received January 31st, 5.5 p.m.) SYDNEY, January 81. In the Australian eighteen-footer championship, Tangalooma was first, Marjorle second, and Waratah third. All were Queensland boats. New South Wales was fourth. Tho race was won by five minutes. Arawatta, the New SOu-th Wales defender, «t the title, broke a mast.
