BOWLING.

- ♦ — - DOMINION TOURNEY. RINKS CHAMPIONSHIP. FTFTH AND SIXTH KOL'MXS. Thrri? ffr'' many enquiries at lieadfii;arter; (Hie Sit. Albans green) whether plar in the New Zealand bowling championship tournament should bo continaed when rain .set. in yesterday afternoon, but. on learning that the do-

,-ifioti of the authorities was in favour of continuing, all greens proceeded with the sixth round of the rinks championship, the fifth round having been played in the morning.

Up to yesterday the weather had heen perfect for the tournament, but parlv in the mom : ng indications were that no play would be possible. From 9 o'clock onwards, however, conditions improved, and the light sou'-wester did „ot affect play. During the early party of the after noon bowlers on all the ten greens in use donned overcoats or held umbrellas over their heads while awaiting their turns on the mat. Had the rain "fallen a month ago it would have been very beneficial to tho greens, but its arrival during a most important stage of the tournament is decidedly inopportune. There were many surprising reversals of form during the day owing to the changed, conditions of tho various green.'. THE RESULTS. Results of yesterday's play arc as follows. SECTION A. The Skoglund family were the un doing of Burgess, but it was a fine contest all through. Kedpath showed that his morning's form was all wrong by running up a big total against Collctt, who put up such a fine showing against Tonkin in the morning.

Wllßoa (St. Kilda) continued in winning vein, when" he met Du Feu's St. Albans link, and the Dunedin men had control of the game almost throughout. Ives (Canterbury) had a comfortable Jaargin in his favour against Reoso (United), and Dick (Ashburton) ocf&Bioaed a surprise by beating Casey, of Thorndon. This was a particularly fine game, with honours just tilightly in favour of the southern rink. Stevenson (Hokitika), who lost the first four rounds, caused a mild stir when, he defeated Muirson (New Brighton), -who up to then had had only one lots.

On the heavy green Casey was no match for Ives. Reese anil' Dick also gained easy victories. SECTION C. LINWOOD QREEN. Fifth Bound. Elliot, Fiddes, Frost, D. Every game on the Canterbury green during the afternoon was closely contested, the difference in the scores in each ease being very small. Ferguson and .McWhannell were the star attractions, and the two teams gave a fine exhibition of trundling tmdev adverse conditions. The St. Albans rink again failed in the afternoon round, Bartlett being its undoing on this occasion. The latter was a prime favourite, but he was never at any stago of the game, in a winning position, Sprosen scoring by a handsome margin. The Phoenix rink mastered the heavy yreon in the afternoon, and their AVanganui opponents also seemed to risfl to the occasion,, for a very exciting game resulted, tho Phccnix team getting their sixth victory by a single point.
