COMMUNITY DANCING.

MAYOR?S FUND BENEFITS. A light fall of rain early* last evening did not promise well for the success of the community dancing in Cranmei* square, but though the south wind continued throughout the evening the large crowd attracted to the scene appeared to enjoy every bit of it. Many attended in fancy dress and more than usual took part in the folk danping as well as in the modern dancing. . Last night's dance was to be the last of the season, and a special appeal was made for generosity on the part of citizens to augment the Mayors Distress Fund. The many collectors who took part seemed to be doing good work, and it is anticipated that the fund will benefit considerably. A party, of Maoris from Tuahiwi, under the direction of To Aritaua Pitama, entertained the crowd with poi dances and hakas, and Miss G. Ferguson's pupils assisted in giving displays of the country dances and in helping the many tyros. The Woolston Band and Derry's Band were both in attendance.
