The weather was cold and showery when the cricket match between South Africa and New South Wales was resumed. New South Wales's tail-enders raised the to'tal to 500, which were made in 340 minutes, Hird's century taking 130 minutes. Rain caused two stoppages after lunch. The bowlers were handicapped by the greasy ball and insecure footing, but the batsmen were so slow that the barrackers became active. Curnow made 50 in 104 minutes.
