♦ SIR JOHN LUKE. (rRK93 ASSOCIATION THi-UOJIAM.) WELLINGTON, December 7. Tli'e death occurred late this afternoon of. Sir John Luke, aged 73 years: l-'ov many years he was a member of IVrliament and 'Mayor ot\ Wellington for eight yeurs, .including the ) vtir period. He lived in Holland, painting and sketching Some rears afterwards he again returned li Europe and lived in Italy, painting and sketching in Venice. Rome, Horence, ;m(l other cities. His pictures ot Dutch and Venetian scenes as well as New Zealand subjects are well known for their light and colouring and are to be found in the main galleries ot New Zealand. Mr Procter was a master "at the Cfiristclnireh School of Art, the Elam School of Art, Auckland, and at the time of his death was on the ait staff of the Businessmen's and Technical College, Melbourne. He married Miss Pearson, a'so a, Christchurch artist, and she and her two daughters are in Melbourne.
