magisterial. SATURDAY. (Before Mr E. D. Mosley, S.M.) REMAND. On * charge of stealing furniture to the value of £3-9 19s 6d from Constancy Byrch on or about October 29th, James Hadkins, aged 32, a construction foreman, was remanded until December Bth. ON LICENSED PREMISES. Charles William Oiliver was fined 20s and costs for being on licensed premises, namely, the Wellington Hotel, after hours. LICENSE CANCELLED. Leonard William Lorgelly, a hawker, aged 36, pleaded guilty to a charge of being intoxicated whilst in charge o£ a car on cembcr 4th. He also pleaded guilty to procuring liquor whilst being a prohibited person. Senior-Sergeant J, Fx>x said that at 4--0 p.m. on Friday last accused had been driving hia lorry north along Fitzgerald avenue. H® had collided with a car coming on its left along Tuam street. At the crossing tho accused had accelerated and had caught the rear right wheel of the other car, inflicting damage to the extent o£ £lO. The accused was prevented from starting his lorry again and it was ascertained that he was in a state of intoxication. Lorgelly's counsel said that the accused had not been feeling well and that he had only had a few drinks. However, he admitted that he should not have been driving in such a condition. He had never been convicted of any motor offences, and was normally a careful driver. Lorgelly was fined £lO and costs, in default of payment within 14 days, one month's 'imprisonment, and his license was cancelled. On the charge of procuring liquor he was convicted and discharged. CHILDREN'S COURT. (Be/or® Mr H. A. Young, S.M., Mrs T. E,. Taylor, and Mr W. M. West, J.P.'s.) TRAFFIC. CASES. A bqy who rode a bicycle on the footpath was fined 2s 6d. Another youth of 16 years of age was convicted and discharged on pach of two charges of driving an unlicensed motor-car. On a charge of driving at night without a tail-light he was fined 2s. THEFT. On a charge of stealing a wristlet watch valued at £2 10s, a boy of 14 years of age was placed under the supervision of the Child Welfare Officer for two years. The police stated that the watch had been stolen while some boys were playing cj-jcket and sold to a second-hand dealer for ,4s;-6d. . ASSAULT. Finding the words "You are a thief" writ; ten in one of his books, n boy of 14..'years exacted summary vengeance upon the lad whom he thought to have been the culprit, with the result that he was charged with assault. . The police stated that the boy,: had chased' the alleged author, of the insult, knocked, him down, and struck , and kicked him while on the ground,' with the /e'sult that his victim liad to spend two days in bed. The offender was admonished end discharged on condition that he paid the medica! expenses. " FOUR CHARGES. Another hoy of 14 years of age pleaded guilty to three charges of theft and one of breaking and entering. It was stated that the youth had stolen a cash-box containing a medal valued at 10s. and sums of Is 4d and £2 10s in money, and had also entered a counting-house with the intention of stealing. The boy's employer said that he had proved satisfactory in a position of trust, and he was willing to give him .another chance. ' The Magistrate, said that "in view of the Wet that the boy was already under supervision he would be admonished and discharged. " METHVEN. (Before Mr 0. R. Orr Walker, S.M.) CIVIL CASES. Decision was reserved in the-case between Dennis McKendry and Wright, Stephenson and Co., Ltd., in a claim for £56 17s 'lod, being allegedly short, payment'on the delivery 'JUDGMENT SUMMONS. " Oh Harris, Mt. Somers, was ordered to p&y N.Z. Breweries, ttd., thesum of £4 6s forthwith, in default-four days' imprisonment the warrant to be. suspended provided defendant pays £1 on February-Ist'and the-balance on March Ist, /1932. ' . ,
