No other actor on the soreen to-day can smash across a climax, hold the interest at such a white-hot pitch, fill his part with such a uense of - drama a» William Powellj He is the star of "Man ■of the World/, which will begin to-day at the Theatre "Man of the World" presents Powell with the opportunity to do great things; gives him a. supporting oast -of unusuaj stiength; a story of virile power. Yet it is Powell who welds all-the elements together and holds the attention, first as the pitiless blackmailer who preys on the weaknesses-of millionaire tourists in Paris;, then as the lover weakened to pew desires which he realises are beyond-his reach.; and lastly as the man whom love has made big enough to renounce the • only thing he wants for the sake of the girl he loves. r "*Carole Lombard 'has' her' best role so far as th§ lovely girl vfho captures Powells heart." The men in tho oast; Guy Kibbee, a newcomer - to the: screen : but well known on the Broadway stage, and- young Lawrence Giiiy, are well cast and capable. • Altogether, "Man of the World" is grand entertainment, moving in the glittering world of tourist-Paris", with a remotely sinister r.oto underlying its always charming action. It s a picture at nicely contrasted lights and shadows, of surprising changes in mood, of finely drawn characters. The atory of "City Streots," tho other feature,. centres around the romance of Gary Cooper and Sylvie Sidney, who boy-and-girl love affair is menaced by the feuds of rival gangsters. Sylvia urge* Cooper to get in "on the easy money." Ha refuses, until tho girl is unjustly accused on a murder charge. Then he enters the fight- Together they escape, after an exciting climax, to er>rry on their romance in a less dangerous locality. _ Paul Lukas and William Boyd are in tha cast, playing excellent, strong roles.
