HEATHCOTE NEWS.

SCHOOL COMMITTEE. The monthly meeting of the Heathcote School Committee was held on Tuesday evening. There were present; —Messrs ■ Collins (chairman), Carter, . Coombes, Bloxam, Dickey, and Harvey (secretary).. Mr O'Neill's resignation was ac, eepted, and Mr E: Dickey was elected tofiU the - vacancy. A motion of symf pathywas passed with Mr and Mrs Coombes in their recent bereavement. It waa decided to buy new cricket bats for the boys. The headmaster (M? Silcock) reported that the attendances had been good and that the proficiency : and term examinations had been finished. It was decided to procure two dux medals and prizes for special sub', jects in the classes. ■ Arrangements for the annual breakup concert, which is to be held on December 17th, were reported to be well . in hand, and also the usual-Christmas-t»9. for the infants. The matter of the flower s*ow and pienic were left over until the next meeting of the . committee.

The Gardens. The main crops pf. peaa and straw, berries are last'on finished and the cherry season is now started. Tomatogrowers are busily engaged in pruning and tying their plants and generally speaking the crops are looking in a vary healthy condition. Those growers who were unfortunate in the ' decent frost are engaged in replanting. All growers are anxiously awaiting a good shower rain.
