BOARD OF GOVERNORS MEET. ARRANGEMENTS FOR 23TH ANNIVERSARY. The Technical College Board of Governors met last night when Mr McGregor Wright presided; also present were Messrs G. E. Franklin, W. R. Gahagan, J. W. Graham, J. W. Roberts, U. Rowse, G. Shipley, T. W. West, and Mrs M. I. Ball. Married Allowances. The Director of Education wrote stating that in tlie case of an assistant teacher 'whose wife earned, say, £IOO per annum outside tho Education or Government service, that teacher would not be paid married allowance. Application for Leave. Mr William Bryden, M.A., B-Se.. a master of the College, applied for leave of absence from March 31st, 1932, to October Ist, 1933, for the" purpose of taking lip an Overseas Research Scholarship awarded by the University of Edinburgh. While in residence there he hoped to pursue research work in Genetics. • The application was referred to the Appointments' Committee. Educational Conference. The Canterbury Branch of the New Zealand Educational Institute forwarded an invitation to the Board to send representatives to a meeting to be held on December Bth to consider the position- of the educational policy ,n New Zealand. „ •, * r it Messrs McGregor W right, G. Donations were received from the Canterbury General Labourers Tjmon. £3 3s: the Canterbury Sheepowners (Jnion, £ls: the New Brighton Borough Council, £5: the Trades and Labour Council, £3 3s; and the Sumner Borough Council, £5. In the cases of the Canterbury Sheepowners' Union and the New Brightoß and Sumner Borough Councils, regret was expresed that owing to the cial stringecy the grants had had to be reduced this year. Financial Statement. The treasurer's financial statement for the period October loth to November 19th showed receipts amounting to £3024 12s 4d, an expenditure of £-*l#' 4s 9d, and a total credit balance ot £837 7s 7d. The report was adopted. Performance Recognised. It'was decided that £3 3s be voted to provide a memento for Matthews in commemoration of his record run »n the inter-secondary school sports, atu his performances over the same distance during the preceding m^nth.

Ladies' Advisory Committee. The Ladies' Advisory Committee reported that it wished to commend specially the standard, of needlework that was being done in Miss Gunn ■ classes. The committee recommended that in view of the magnitude and responsibility of the work in home science being carried on throughout the Dominion, the position of organising inspector in this work 6hoirfd not bfc allowed to remain vacant, ana that urgent representations be made to the Minister for Education on this point. - The report was adopted. _ ' New CJasS Kelt rear. Anniversary Cerebrations. The chairman reported that the subcommittee set up to arrange for celebrations for the 25th Anniversary of the foundation of the college had tb* matter well in hand, and it was hoped that the attendance of old students, including particularly ' those « earlier yealrs of the college, would. The reports of the honorary examiners in carpentry and joinery, plumbing and typography, were received.
