GREENDALE. A. gift afternoon in honour ol MisS Gladys Adams and Mr Frank Collif) on the occasion of their approaching marriage, was held in the grounds Mr and Mrs W.* Shipley, "Pinehurst,' Greendale, yesterday. Miss Adams is assistant organist of the Baptist Church, and , pianist at the Sunday School, and there was a large attendance of members of the congregation, and scholars of the school and their parents. A very pleasant time was spent, many playing croquet and tennis. After afternoon tea had been served, the parcels containing many handsome presents were opened, and the Rev. J'" T.'Jones expressed the good _ wishes the company. Mr Collin replied. GREENPARK. , On Election night, a very siieeesslul social was held in the Greenpark Memorial Hall, when the polling results were clearly received by wireless and all present appreciated the arrangements made for hearing the results, while they enjoyed dancing and games. The results were also displayed on several large blackboards ou the stage. During the evening, prizes were won by Miss I. Stalker, Miss Schroeder, Messrs J. 11. Thomas, and H. Saunders (Tai Tapu), and consolation prizes' were awarded to Mr Sehroeder. Miss 35. Uickerby \D6yleston), and Mr E. Greaves (Lincoln). A Monte Carlo waltz was won by Miss It. Schrocder and Mr J. Maloney (Lakeside). The dance music was supplied by Mrs Marks, extras being piaypd bv Miss 1. Woods (Lincoln), and Mr Reg Thomas was M.C, At the conclusion ot the broadcast, when the re.turns for tlie whole of New Zealand bad been received. Mr E. Stalker expressed thanks to Mr and Mrs for the use of their wireless set. and f° r the way they had arranged to display the results, a vote of thanks being carried by acclamation.

LITTLE RIVER. The usual monthly meeting_ of the Little River branch of the Women's Institute was held at the residence of Mrs Trail, Little River,_and took the form of a social afternoon. About thirty members were presided over by Mrs Trail. • Much interest was shown in the exhibition of tin ware made from petrol tins, many useful articles being presented, the prize going to Miss Winifred Stott for a scoup for flour and sugar. A plant exchange had been arranged and several local gardens have benefited by the exchange. A meeting of the staff of the Little River Railway was held to decide about their annual ball. After discussion, it 'was-'decided that a railway ball be held on December 16th, Mr W. Aitken placing at their disposal his new hall.. The ball will mark the opening of the new hall, and .should be a. very big attraction. It was decided to engage Miss Moore's orchestra. The Peninsula cricket competition match to-da;y will be between Little River and Wainui at Little River. This will complete the' series of matches, played before Christmas and the competition will be resumed' in February.

LOBURN The monthly meeting of the Lobum branch of the Women's .Institute was held- in Mrs McLeod's garden, about 20 members being present. Final arrangements were made for the concert to be held in the second week in December. It was decided not to liolu meetings 1 during the bpsy months ol December and January; Those present were Mesdames McLeod (president), Bradley, James Webb, Dawson, Cook, Robertson, Kirk, Hopkiris, Fitzeibbon, McGregor, and Kempthorne, Misses Barker, Carboy, Hiatt, Dawson, Montgomery (2), Fitzgibbon, and Hughey. HORORATA. The following tennis team will represent Hororata v. View Hill at View Hill this afternoon in the Mftlvern Tennis 'Xssociatioo competitions: Mrs W. 0. Gray and Mrs T. F. Hight, Misses M. MeKenzie, P. Oliver, D. Oliver, and E. Thorne. Messrs At. Kellaway, J. McKenzie, S. Gibson, K. Kellaway. I).. Adams.- jand G. E. Cartwright. The Hororata Bi tennis team will play a friendly game against the Glenroy team at Horprata to-dav. The liororata B team will be represented by. Mrs R. Gray, Misses I. Hore. M. Wells, R. Barrett, E.
