EXCHANGE RATES. MONEY LEAVING AUSTRALIA. Although the hanks claim that they are adhering to the oarded rates of exchange, their action is Aot preventing money which has been held on short term investment from leaving Australia, says tho Melbourne "Argus." It was feared that if a substantial reduction in the official rate took place many firms and companies with head offices overseas which had allowed profits to accumulate in Australia, in preference to paying the high premium of £3O f6r the transfer of the funds to London, would rush the exchange market, and thus cause a scarcity of London money again. The moveI ment of such money from Australia to Lou- ' don is, in fact, taking place, but the volume is not yet large enough to account for all the London credit available in t'he outside exchange market. One oil company is said to be transferring money from Australia to London at the rate of £250,000 a month, and maiiy smaller amounts are heing sent by other companies. Such transactions are by no means exhausting the London money available, and they are not likely to do so while wool and wheat continue to sell at improved prices. It has been unofficially reported that a forward telegraphic transfer amount (December) had been sold at the rate of £126 7s 6d pbr £IOO. Most of the transactions in the outside market, however, have taken place recently at about £127. FEILDING STOCK % SALE. (PRESS ASSOCIATION TSI.KORAII.) FEILDING, December 4.
