The timely assistance of Mr T. Rotana, a Maori employed as a grader operator, was responsibly for saving four men from a burning car near Paeroa during last week-Mid. The car, which was proceeding to Tuuranga was driven by Mr C. Lord, who was accompanied by three friends. At a point on a sharp bend within 13 miles of Paeroa, tho car apparently failed to take tho curve and fell into a ditch. A somersault resulted, and the car caught fire while it was lying upside down with its occupants trapped inside. Mr Rotana, a man of strong phvsique. was passing. By a great effort he succeeded in lifting the car unaided, in the face of the growing flames. After Mr F. LangJey, of Dnvonport, was freed, their combined efforts liberated the other passengers. The car was soon reduced to a mass of shapeless metal by th#>'flnmes. None of the party was injured apart from a few cuts and abrasions. OH! THE DELIGHT OF ORANGES.
